Sportsbook Report: Portland Pilots (+12.5) vs. BYU Cougars

By Wally Jeter

To say that I got lucky in the San Diego game is an understatement, the Pilots did not play well and only covered because of a lucky break on a highly scrutinized out of bounds call. That being said, it all pays the same. Pilots aren't getting showed much respect with this +12.5 point underdog line currently running on sportsbook.com. Especially since we beat BYU once already this season even with a crazy shooting night by Tyler Haws (48 pts). BYU really needs this game if they expect to get an NCAA at-large tournament bid (assuming they don't win the WCC tournament). I'm sure they also have revenge on their minds for the triple overtime loss in Portland. For these reason I think BYU will win, but I just can't bring myself to lay 12.5 points with BYU. Thomas van der Mars matches up well against their big men (don't forget he dropped a 27/18 on them in Portland) and the Pilots do have a qualified defensive tandem of Korey Thieleke and Bryce Pressley to run at Haws all game (not that is mattered last time). I'm assuming Alec Wintering will play again tonight, and it would be nice to have Kevin Bailey back for some added athleticism but not counting on it. BYU now know who Bobby Sharp is, so he won't be sneaking up on them again but will be asked to shoot early and often. Got to roll with the Pilots tonight!

4:45pm Update
Late breaking news. Coach Reveno tweeted about an hour ago (weird world we live in) that both Alec Wintering and Kevin Bailey will not play tonight. So I'm flipping my bet to BYU. No offense David Carr! Really you should just stay away but that's not what we do here on this blog.

Pilots Courtside bet: BYU -12.5

(Season record on Courtside Bets 10-5)
